She is a nationally recognized author who has presented seminars on nutrition and wellness across the country. Her two books, Fast Facts on Fast Food for Fast People and High Energy Eating, have been featured in many national magazines such as McCall’s, Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, Soccer Magazine and Tennis Magazine. Barbara’s High Energy Eating workbook has been used by the National Championship University of Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball team and also the University of Tennessee’s National Championship Football Team. She has been sports nutrition consultant to the United States Navy SEALs and University of Louisville Athletic Department. Barbara has served on the boards for the Derby Eve Mint Jubilee Gala,The Louisville Youth Training Center/Heuser Clinic and Special Olympics. She is a consultant to the Triple Crown of Running Series, the KDF miniMarathon/Marathon and the KHF Duathlon Series. She has been active in the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Greater Louisville, Inc. Barbara received the 2002 NAWBO Woman Business Owner of Distinction Award. Barbara is also an active member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists (SCAN), and the American College of Sportsmedicine (ACSM). With a successful weekly radio show for over 8 years, and a regular segment on WHAS’s Good Morning Kentuckiana and WHAS noon news, she is able to reach thousands of listeners with her important nutrition, health and fitness messages. All of Barbara’s family members are involved in healthcare. Her husband, Ordie, is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in private practice, her son Chris, has a masters degree in Public Health, a regional finalist for the White House Fellowship, and will begin a Leadership in Healthcare Executive MBA at Yale in New Haven, CT in 2005, son, Geoff is a second-year resident in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt Medical Center, and son Jon, has an MBA and will begin medical school in 2005. Barbara has three grown sons and three grandchildren. Barbara’s fitness routine includes running, cycling, hiking and strength training. Circulation and DistributionKentuckiana HealthFitness magazine is a monthly publication with a controlled distribution of 47,000 per month. 16,500 copies are home delivered and the remaining 30,500 copies are available through more than 550 distribution locations; including health clubs, sporting goods stores, bike shops, corporate fitness centers, health food stores, bookstores, restaurants, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, libraries, college student centers, physicians office, local sporting events, and many other heavy traffic areas. Circulation includes Kentucky counties of Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Bullitt, Hardin, and includes Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana and selected sites in Frankfort, KY.
